PREFACE
This Instructor’s Manual is best used with the second edition of Butcher, Mineka, and Hooley’s Abnormal Psychology, Fifteenth Edition. It is tailored to meet the needs of a variety of teaching styles, and provides both exercises and lecture starters targeted to all types of student learners.Abnormal psychology continues to be one of the most popular courses in psychology departments for both psychology majors and non-majors. Abnormal psychology is a fascinating and informative course to teach, where students can dispel labels and stigma while becoming advocates for mental health. Students take the course for a variety of reasons, from seeking answers to their own mental health issues, to trying to evaluate the mental health needs of loved ones or a friend, to wondering why people act, think, and feel in ways they do.This Instructor’s Manual is designed to ease your course preparation without requiring any additional planning. It provides a quick recap of the chapter material, as well as key terms as a reference, suggested films and videos, and Web links related to each chapter’s material. In addition, this Instructor’s Manual offers lecture starters and discussion points to engage the class and increase active participation related to the course material. The order of the Instructor’s Manual corresponds to the sequence of chapters in the Butcher textbook. Each chapter is structured the same, so once you are familiar with the organization you will be able to thumb to the desired material for lecture or in-class activities.
Each chapter of this Instructor’s Manual is organized as follows:
Teaching Objectives The teaching objectives can be used both to outline an agenda for students in-class as well as help with the organization of the chapter material for pedagogical reasons.
Chapter Overview/Summary The chapter overview provides a narrative summary of the chapter material to help you develop lectures for each corresponding chapter.
MyPsychLab Resources These interactive videos provide a personal testimonial of someone living with a disorder, a supplemental way to explain concepts discussed in the textbook.
